🙏 The Church of the Holy Sepulchre – Jerusalem 🙏
The Old City, narrow alleyways, thousands of voices all around — and then you step inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and everything outside somehow fades away. There's no way to put it into words, you just stand still.
Good Friday is the saddest and most sacred day in Christianity. It marks the suffering of Jesus Christ, who accepted a martyr's death to redeem the sins of humanity. On this day, during the whole of Holy Week, fasting is especially strict — the Church commands that nothing be eaten or drunk.
Good Friday is the day when believers are left alone with themselves, reaching repentance and purifying both their thoughts and their souls. That's why weddings and christenings are not held on this day, and any form of merriment is considered inappropriate.
And according to folk belief, on the fifth day of Holy Week — Good Friday — even the birds don't sing, because they too grieve for Christ. And honestly, standing there on that day, it feels completely true. 🙏
