The best part is that the city center isn't big and can easily be explored on foot. As I strolled around, I was struck by the beautiful houses along the river, the colorful facades on the main street, the Neptune Fountain, and the town hall tower. It's an easy walk, and there's something worth photographing at every turn.
If you have more time, I recommend the Museum of the Second World War. I found it fascinating, and here's a small bonus β if you're in Gdansk on a Tuesday, admission is free. The Amber Museum is also worth a visit π. Gdansk is known as the amber capital of the world, and you can see it literally everywhere.
I really enjoyed Polish cuisine too. I ate at a restaurant called GdaΕski Bowke, which I'd recommend to anyone. What I liked most was the combined appetizer platter β it let me try several traditional Polish snacks all at once π. The old town is packed with restaurants, cafΓ©s, and tourists from all over the world, which makes the atmosphere even more enjoyable.
Interestingly, just as people in WrocΕaw search for the little gnome statues, in Gdansk the symbol is small lion statues. As I walked around, I kept glancing about, hoping to spot another one π.
If you're arriving by plane, the easiest option is to take the direct bus to the city center. The ride takes about 45 minutes, and tickets can be bought at a shop at the airport or from a vending machine. You can pay by card almost everywhere, so I never had to exchange any zΕoty π³.
Gdansk impressed me with its beautiful architecture, relaxed atmosphere, and fascinating history. If anyone asks me which city in Poland I'd recommend visiting, I'd say without hesitation β Gdansk π«‘
