I'll share with you what I managed to see and learn about Coventry β just an hour by train from London. π This is the city that suffered the worst bombing damage during World War II. π§ββοΈ Only the outer walls and spire of the cathedral survived, and the sight of it is the kind that leaves you speechless for a moment. πββοΈ
Across from it stands the Herbert Museum, and that's where I learned the most about Coventry's history. βοΈπ The hall I found most fascinating was the one dedicated to Lady Godiva. Legend has it that she was the wife of the local lord. When he decided to raise taxes, she stood up for the townspeople. Her husband told her he would lower the taxes if she rode naked through the town square. Lady Godiva accepted the challenge, and covered only by her long hair, she rode through the square on a white horse... π Her statue stands in the square, and of course, I snapped a photo with it to remember the moment. πΈ
The Transport Museum is also captivating. πββοΈ I spent at least 3 hours there β it's one of the largest transport museums in the world, so be prepared to lose all track of time.
I really loved this vibrant, colorful city. π
