Let's start with the biggest surprise: no kings were ever buried here. π€΄ Not a single one. The name comes from the sheer grandeur of the tombs themselves, not from the people who once rested inside them.
And yet, it's still worth every minute β this is one of Cyprus's most important archaeological sites, added to the UNESCO list in 1980. Some 2,000 years ago, these tombs reflected a blend of Egyptian and Greek influence, with Doric columns and open courtyards. πββοΈ As you wander among the stones, you keep catching yourself looking up for a roof that's been gone for centuries.
I explored the whole site on foot in about an hour or two, taking my time. πΆββοΈ A little tip from me: wear comfortable shoes and bring water β it's rocky, uneven ground with plenty of sun.
