Stirling is one of those towns where history literally walks the streets alongside you. βοΈπ I crossed the old bridge myself β the very one where, in 1297, the battle between the Scottish forces led by William Wallace and the English army took place.
Scotland's hero lived only 35 years, yet he managed to leave behind a truly remarkable historical legacy. He was one of the military leaders in the war for independence from England and was proclaimed Guardian of Scotland. Right here, at Stirling, Wallace won a crucial battle "not by numbers, but by skill," after which nearly all of Scotland was freed from British rule.
It's true that things ended badly for the hero β after being treacherously captured, he was executed in London. π‘οΈ But thanks to the film "Braveheart," his name is known around the world today. π And standing on that bridge, it somehow becomes very easy to picture how it all must have looked back then.
