The moment I stepped into the village, I was captivated by the beauty of the Rhodope Mountains. The tall pines, the crisp air, and the surrounding stillness made me forget all about the noise of the city – everything felt so genuine and untouched. 🤷‍♂️

I wandered along the narrow cobblestone streets, taking in the old Rhodope houses with their wide wooden porches and stone roofs. They hold on to the memory of the past and make Shiroka Laka one of the most beautiful villages in Bulgaria. 👌 It's no coincidence that the village has been declared an architectural and folklore reserve – the spirit of Bulgarian tradition can be felt at literally every step. 🤍💚❤️

I was especially struck by the history behind the place. I learned that its name comes from the Old Bulgarian word "lǎka," meaning "bend" or "meander." And honestly, the description fits perfectly – the river and the roads wind beautifully through the mountain slopes. ⛰️

Shiroka Laka is also the birthplace of Rhodope folk song, where it was born and continues to thrive. Many renowned folk singers and bagpipe players first saw the light of day here. I visited the school for folk music and instruments, founded back in 1972 – there, young people learn to keep Bulgarian folklore alive, and it truly captivated me. 👌 A tip from me: wear comfortable shoes, the cobblestones show no mercy.

As I left, I carried with me a sense of calm and admiration. Shiroka Laka isn't just a beautiful village – it's a place that safeguards Bulgaria's roots, traditions, and music. 🙆‍♂️
