Neuzetikon Fortress 🇧🇬 Bulgaria 👇 🏰 The Guardian Above Mezek.

After my encounter with the ancient world of the Thracians, my journey continues to yet another striking page of Mezek's history – the Neuzetikon fortress. Nestled among the green slopes of the Rhodope Mountains, it stands as a silent sentinel over the surrounding land. 🙆‍♂️

Built between the 10th and 12th centuries, it takes the shape of an irregular quadrangle measuring roughly 60 by 100 meters. Mostly its stone walls remain from its former life, but even today they command serious respect. 😯

I stand high above Mezek, gazing toward the horizon. Below – the village. Around me – the Rhodopes. And beneath my feet – history.

And I find myself wondering… 🤔 how many footsteps crossed these stones before mine?

That's the magic of travel. 🤌 It's not just about seeing a place, but for a moment imagining the life that once thrived there.
