Ravenna is the city of mosaics โ here, mosaics from the Byzantine Empire have been preserved and restored, and there's a combined ticket for either 3 or 5 sites to see them. I went with the first option, and it was more than enough for me. ๐ซ
Honestly, I know almost nothing about the emperors, saints, and other figures depicted on the walls. And yet I was left in awe by the sheer beauty of it all โ the shimmer, the colors, the fact that every bit of it was crafted stone by stone so many centuries ago. ๐
The three buildings from the combined ticket that I visited:
๐ Basilica of San Vitale ๐ Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo ๐ Archiepiscopal Museum and Chapel of Sant'Andrea
A little tip: wear comfortable shoes and keep your head up โ the best part of Ravenna is above you, on the ceilings. ๐
