The prevailing scientific view is that millions of years ago, this area was covered by sea. Several layers of clay and marl settled on the seabed, followed by a layer of quartz sand, and on top of that, a layer of limestone. 🌊 Millions of years later, the sea retreated, the land dried out, and rainwater seeping through the limestone layer began draining into the sandy layer below.
This triggered a process similar to the one that forms stalactites, stalagmites, and columns in caves. The limestone deposits cemented the sand grains together, creating massive columns within the sand.
