Here it is — the very place where the ancient city's existence began. This is where the first stone was laid in the settlement's development, back in the late 5th and first half of the 4th millennium BC. Can you imagine that? While you're standing up here taking in the panorama, there are thousands of years of history right beneath your feet. 🤯
In this part of the Three Hills, epochs and civilizations have literally piled up one on top of another. It's no coincidence that the site has been declared a monument of national cultural significance — it's undoubtedly one of the most important cultural and historical sites not just in Bulgaria, but across the Balkans.
The Nebet Tepe fortress played a vital role as part of the city's fortifications right up until the Middle Ages, and it holds real potential to become part of the world's cultural heritage — precisely because it bears the authentic traces of the civilizations that have continuously inhabited Plovdiv for thousands of years. ✍️📖
My tip: climb up here at sunset. The stones turn golden, and the view over Plovdiv is one you'll remember for a long time. 🌅
