Gozo felt like a colorful wilderness โ set apart from the world, yet full of charm. ๐คทโโ๏ธ They call it the "Island of Calypso," and not without reason: in mythology, the nymph Calypso kept Odysseus on her island for a full 7 years as he journeyed back to his homeland of Ithaca after the end of the Trojan War. After just one day here, I'm starting to understand her. ๐
The island is small but packed with things to see โ the ฤ gantija Temples, the Valley of the Peaks, the Ta' Pinu Basilica, and the Citadel in Victoria. The Citadel is yet another wonderful stop for lovers of medieval atmosphere. ๐ And some of Gozo's ancient temples are older than the Egyptian pyramids. ๐ฎ
I learned that a quarter of Gozo's residents have never left their island. ๐คฆ That's because they're absolute patriots. ๐ฒ
I was captivated by the island's beauty, but even more so by the tranquility and the warmth I was met with. ๐ Here, every little stone has been turned into an attraction and a piece of tourism. ๐คฃ
