The ruins lie about 44 km northwest of Tulum, so they're an easy day trip. ๐ And yes, here it is โ the tallest pyramid on the Yucatรกn Peninsula! It's called Nohoch Mul, and it soars to a full 42 meters. ๐โโ๏ธ The view from the top is nothing but miles of green jungle stretching as far as the eye can see.
Besides that, I was also struck by the other ceremonial structures in the city, built during the Classic period of Maya civilization (250โ900 AD). Today it all stands half-hidden among the trees, ever since the Maya abandoned the city after the Spanish arrived. ๐
A little tip: set off early, before the heat wakes up, and don't forget water and a hat โ the jungle offers shade, but the pyramid doesn't. ๐
