Literally on every corner you can stumble upon remnants of the Berlin Wall.๐งฑ And one of the most popular sights is the Brandenburg Gate.๐โโ๏ธ Built between 1789 and 1791, it has stood ever since as one of the symbols of Berlin and of Germany. During the Cold War it marked the border between East and West Berlin ๐, and today it stands as a symbol of the country's reunification.๐
The Reichstag building is also one of Germany's most important symbols. It opened in 1894 to house the original parliament of the German Empire. Over the years it has been set on fire and bombed, and in 1999, after reconstruction, it once again became home to the German parliament (the Bundestag).๐
The Berlin Cathedral is equally impressive, with its striking architecture โ the massive, nearly 100-meter dome topped with a golden cross, along with its four towers, make it impossible to miss.๐ฎโช
The feeling at the Holocaust Memorial is something entirely different.๐ช It consists of grey concrete blocks of varying sizes, raised in memory of the genocide of approximately six million Jews during World War II. You walk in among them, and somehow the conversations just fade away.
Checkpoint Charlie is another one of the city's iconic historical sites โ the most famous crossing point along the Berlin Wall between East and West Berlin during the Cold War. After the Wall fell and Germany was reunified, the building was preserved and turned into a tourist attraction.โ๏ธ
